Isn’t it interesting that our mothers and their mothers never really talked or helped with information on what happens when we get our first period?
Instead it was our teachers & doctors who told us “what we needed to know” – which was, and still is, BARELY anything once you go down the rabbit hole and really get to know yourself.
Hi my name is ZenJen and I’m at the point in my life where I’ve decided that I can do whatever I want.
Why? Bc it’s just me. I ultimately have zero ties to anyone or anything (sometimes not by choice) so why not zero in on myself?
With that being said… the world is my oyster, the room for creation and expansion is infinite and everything that surrounds me is here to support me.
I’m here to get comfy but not too comfy. It’s time to take charge of life, to learn how to have fun while also finding the keys to success.
With that being said, yes… My target audience – if you can’t already tell – women.
Young women who are single and looking to mingle…
with their menstrual cycle.
I believe that the key to a woman’s personal success is knowing and going with the waves of their monthly menstrual cycle.
Curious? Let me gladly explain! Or at least try to because I’m still learning myself so the majority of my current information is personal experience through doing, reading, researching and a whole lotta trial & error.
Where do I begin? With the current phase of my cycle.
Let me introduce you to the Ovulatory Phase.
I am currently in this phase (cycle day 12-17) of my period with day one being my first day of bleeding.
Because I’m in this phase, according to science & personal experience, my hormones hit a peak in testosterone and estrogen.
What does this mean? There is a greater chance that I am full of energy geared towards socializing, creating, networking, first dates, connection, extrovert type activities.
Now, what’s fun about life is that as a human experiencing human things… I have the privilege to choose what to focus on throughout my experience and throughout each monthly cycle.
I’ve also learned there are endless amounts of options in life to choose from… so life can easily get messy as well (which is okay but c’mon, it ends up draining you).
To feel somewhat organized, I inevitably turned inward and focused on what fuels my body and spirit.
Do you know the one thing they both had in common? The menstrual cycle.
What this means is that my menstrual cycle has become a base, or a blueprint, for decision making towards my overall health.
Because as I know and believe, my body is my own and I get to treat it as such. For me, it’s about learning how to LISTEN to it and treat it with what I deem as respectful.
Respectfully, when it comes to movement for my Ovulatory Phase, I choose not to move with so much intensity at all points of my cycle (cheers to the power of choice). At a birds eye view though, when it comes to movement during your Ovulatory phase, your excess hormones and energy are part of what fuels intense workouts like HIIT, Hot Yoga or running.
It’s like this: One week you’ll be amped up to hit that cardio, lift those weights or join that 6:00 am hot yoga class (potential Ovulatory phase energy) and the next week you are feeling achy and wanting to do yin yoga, go on an easy walk, Pilates. (potentially Luteal phase energy)
ALSO… Our cycles link up and can be interpreted through the seasons! How FUN.
Let me explain, the Ovulatory phase brings the same energy as the season of summer so think “Be Strong Be Social.”
If you think about it like this, it is also the seasonal version of ourselves that we compare all of our other versions to – we get excited for summer because we get to show off and tone up right? And then we beat ourselves up in “Winter” for being lazy, slow or gaining a couple pounds.
Don’t do that – it’s a scam. ALL parts of our cycle, our seasons in life, our parts of ourselves… All equally needed for the other to thrive.
You need your winter body to fuel your summer body.
You need your shadow self to fuel your higher self.
You need your autumn nutrients to fuel your autumn environment (mind, body, space).
POINT IS: Zoom out and everything is connected but zoom in and the Ovulatory phase represents the season of summer so live accordingly.
Up next: Taking the Ovulatory phase & looking at the comparison with the Follicular phase.
